Inspired by this post on Reddit (Ireland's longest .ie website is just the word 'Cork' repeated 15 times), I had to have a look and see if it was possible to register anything longer.

According to Wiki, each label within a domain can be a maximum of 63 bytes in length. For a standard, ASCII alphabet, this would represent 63 characters. Overall, a domain can have up to 127 labels, but there's an upper limit of 253 characters for the entire domain.

The word "Cork" repeated 15 times takes up 60 characters, so there's scope of registering longer. As it happens, the county of my birth has nine letters, which fits neatly into the 63 character limit seven times... so... here it is, the longest possible .ie domain name:
